PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Lions' men's soccer team lost on the road at UNC Pembroke, 2-0. It was the season opener for both teams.
Tom Potter scored the first goal of the match for UNC Pembroke from the far left wing at the 4:52 mark. Josh Phelps assisted the goal.
Jordan Walshaw gave the Braves a 2-0 lead in the 17th minute on a shot from inside the box. Potter assisted his score. The teams carried that score into the locker room at the intermission.
Neither team was able to score in the second frame. Mars Hill outshot the Braves, 15-3. Corner kicks were even at five apiece. Chris Mitchell made one save in goal for MHU while Kenneth Perkinson made four saves in the net for UNC Pembroke. Ian Wu led the Lions' offense with three shots, two on goal. Christian McArthur also added three shots, one on goal.
Mars Hill will play at Limestone on Sunday, September 6. The match is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
