SALISBURY, N.C.- Stian Sanner's first collegiate goal at 98:21 of overtime gave Mars Hill a 2-1 victory at Catawba in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday. Mars Hill improves to 2-3 and 1-1 in the league while Catawba is 2-3 and 1-1.
"We really showed some passion in the overtime portion of the game", head coach Gary Hamel said. "We need to clean some things up but we got a win and it's on to the next game."
Sanner scored on a breakaway to give Mars Hill their first conference victory of the season. In his Mars Hill debut, Robert Taylor gave the Lions a 1-0 lead with his first goal at 50:57. Catawba answered the Lions on a Kenny Bonilla goal at 68:40. Bonilla's goal was assisted by Tobias Iriah.
Mars Hill outshot Catawba 12-7 with a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. Connor Talbot made three saves for Mars Hill. Christian Watts made four saves for Catawba.
Mars Hill returns home for the next three contests, beginning on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. against Carson-Newman.
