Men's Soccer Falls to Tusculum

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions lost to SAC foe Tusculum 5-1 Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 2-9-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the league. The Pioneers improved to 8-4-1 on the year, 5-2-1 in the SAC.
Cody Foreman put the Lions up 1-0 at the 22:18 mark when he scored off a header from a cross by Stian Sanner. The Lions took that lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Pioneers scored five unanswered goals in the second frame to pull away with the win. Jonathan Spicher tied the contest at 1-1 in the 49th minute off a cross from Andre De Giorgi. Tyler Linkous then notched what would later prove to be the match winner at the 58:21 mark off a rebound that was sent in by Andreas Kvam. Gary Dunlop gave the Pioneers a 3-1 lead in the 68th minute when he scored off a pass from Kvam, his second assist of the contest. Kvam then added two insurance goals for Tusculum in the 81st and 83 minutes to make the final tally 5-1 in favor of the visitors.
Mars Hill outshot the Pioneers 18-12 and edged Tusculum 8-2 in corner kicks. The Lions were called offsides three time. Chris Mitchell played all 90 minutes in goal for MHU and made five saves. Jorge Alvarez also played the entire match in the net for the Pioneers and made seven saves.
Mars Hill will play at SAC opponent Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday, October 21. The contest is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
