Men's Soccer Loses at Limestone in Overtime
The Lions’ men’s soccer team lost to Limestone in overtime, 2-1 on the road Sunday evening at Saints Field.

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Lions' men's soccer team lost to Limestone in overtime, 2-1 on the road Sunday evening at Saints Field. Mars Hill fell to 0-2 on the season while the Saints improved to 2-0 overall.
Less than five minutes into the match (4:51), Nathan Lelievre chipped a ball over the Lions' keeper to account for the first score of the match. Corentin Guegan supplied the assist on the score.
Amine Merdjett tied the contest for the Lions at the 30:47 mark when he hit a shot that deflected off a Limestone defender and then found the back of the net. Ian Wu made the pass that led to the Lions' goal. The teams carried that score into the locker room at halftime.
The second half would not see either team score in regulation. Just over a minute (91:16) into the first overtime period, Lelievre hit a breakaway shot for the match winning score.
Limestone outshot MHU, 10-5. Limestone enjoyed seven corner kicks to the Lions only having one in the contest. Mars Hill was called offsides four times while the Saints only had one offside penalty. Connor Talbot played all 91:16 in goal for the Lions and made two saves. Tom Godfrey also played the entire match in the net for Limestone and made one save.
Mars Hill will play at Young Harris on Sunday, September 13. The match is set to start at 2 p.m.
