MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions dropped their home and season opener 1-0 in overtime to USC Aiken Thursday evening in the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The Pacers improved to 1-0 on the season.
Catherine McHale notched the match winner with 3:19 left in the first overtime period. She scored off a through ball into the bottom right corner of the net. The goal was unassisted.
Mars Hill outshot the Pacers 7-5. Aiken had three corner kicks while Mars Hill had two. Kaitlyn Danglemaler played all 96:41 in goal for Mars Hill and made three saves. Karin Cadwalader also played the entire match in the net for the Pacers and made four saves.
Mars Hill will return to action on Saturday, September 3. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m.
