CENTRAL, S.C. – The Mars Hill women's soccer team beat Southern Wesleyan 2-1 on the road Wednesday night at Childs Field. The Lions improved to 2-5-1 overall while the Warriors fell to 1-7 on the season.
Julia Johnson gave the Lions a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute when she scored off a pass from Breona Tate. The Warriors tied the contest at 1-all in the 31st minute when Rachel Curtis found the back of the net off an assist by Beth Spence. The teams carried that score into halftime.
Samantha Pyle notched the match winner in the 84th minute. The match winning score was assisted by Ashlyn Perkins.
Mars Hill outshot the Warriors, 16-9. The Lions recorded six corner kicks. Maslyn Greene played all 90 minutes in goal for Mars Hill and made five saves. Courtney McNeil also played the entire match in the net for SWU and made eight saves. The Lions set a season high in on-goal percentage (.625) in the win.
The Lions will play at SAC foe Coker on Saturday afternoon. The match is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
