MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (5-3) defeated Thomas More (2-3) by a score of 17-10 Wednesday afternoon inside Meares Stadium.
The Lions set the tone early, jumping out to a commanding lead behind Josh McCallion's career-high seven goals. Cole Ross (4G, 1A), Austin Stroud (2G, 3A), and Sam Arendt (2G, 1A) contributed heavily to the scoring, while Caleb Nelson (1G, 3A) helped facilitate the attack. By halftime, Mars Hill had built an 11-6 lead, putting Thomas More on their heels.
Despite the loss, Thomas More had strong performances from Wyatt Fruland (3G, 2A) and Joe Mariani (2G, 1A), who kept the Saints in the fight. Jase Macaulay (2G) and Camden Newell (2G) also chipped in, but Mars Hill's defense held firm. Goalies Shane Hecht and Xavier Wells split time in net, combining for seven saves, while defenders Jake Lynch and Liam Murray helped disrupt Thomas More's offensive rhythm.
The Lions will look to continue their strong play when they host Catawba at home in their upcoming matchup. First faceoff on Saturday, March 15 is set for 12 p.m. inside Meares Stadium.
