
McCallion nets five in MHU's first win of season

YOUNG HARRS, Ga. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (1-2) defeated Young Harris (1-2) by a score of 14-12 on the road Wednesday afternoon.
In three of the four quarters, the teams tied with three goals apiece. In the second frame, Mars Hill edged Young Harris 5-3, proving to be the difference making 15 minutes of play.
The trio of Josh McCallion, Sam Arendt, and Brandon Woodward scored in the first quarter, putting Mars Hill up 3-0. In the second, Mars Hill opened with another 3-0 run as Woodward netted his second of the game and McCallion scored twice after, securing the hat-trick.
Young Harris battled in the second, tying the game at six, but with 4:16 remaining, Arendt scored his second of the game to give Mars Hill the 7-6 lead. McCallion scored his fourth of the contest just 34 seconds later, putting the Lions up by two.
The third quarter saw McCallion, Arendt, and Austin Stroud score for Mars Hill while in the fourth, Arendt, Cole Ross, and AJ Howland netted goals.
Arendt led all players with six points (4g, 2a) followed by McCallion's five points (5g). Woodward (2g), Stroud (1g, 1a), and Ross (1g, 1a) each collected two points apiece while Caleb Nelson led the team with three assists for three points.
Shane Hecht picked up his first win of the season, stopping 20 shots on the day. Howland won 12-of-20 faceoffs.
Mars Hill takes on Barton next Wednesday, February 19 at 3 p.m. on the road.
