WINGATE, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (4-3, 1-1 SAC) was defeated by No. 6 Wingate (5-1, 1-1 SAC) by a score of 23-7 Saturday afternoon on the road.
Wingate opened the contest on a 6-0 rn before Austin Stroud put the Lions on the board. The Bulldogs scored 11 in the first quarter while Zack Gardner-McMinn netted the Lions' second goal of the frame.
The Lions opened the second with back-to-back goals in the opening minute from the sticks of Mason Mehsikomer and Sam Arendt, but Wingate answered back with five straight to close out the half.
Wingate continued to roll offensively, opening the third quarter on a 4-0 run, capping off a 9-0 run between the two quarters. Cole Ross scored the Lions' lone third quarter goal.
In the fourth, both Brandon Woodward and Josh McCallion scored for Mars Hill.
Arendt led the Lions with two points (1g, 1a) while six other Lions tallied in the contest.
The Lions return home on Wednesday, March 12 when they host Thomas More in non-conference play. First faceoff is set for 1 p.m. inside Meares Stadium.
