HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Lions men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at the hands of Coker on Saturday, October 01. Mars Hill falls to 4-5 overall and 2-3 within the conference, while Coker improved to 5-3-1 and 3-2 in the SAC.
The first half was a complete stalemate as neither team could push a ball into the back of the net.
Coker changed the game in the 56th minute of the second half, capitalizing on a free kick after being fouled in the box. Just five minutes later the Cobras added an insurance goal as a ball deflected off a Mars Hill player on its way into the back of the cage.
Mars Hill held a slight advantage in shots (15-11), but Coker earned six corners compared to the Lions' four. Midfielder Ian Wu paced Mars Hill with three shots. Ben Lucas was tagged with the loss after playing all 90 minutes in goal and allowing two scores, while collecting three saves.
The Lions will be back in action on Wednesday, October 5, playing host to Lenoir Rhyne at the Ammons Family Athletic Center. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
