ANDERSON, S.C. – The Mars Hill men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision against Anderson on Saturday, October 29. The Lions fell to 6-9-1 overall and 4-6-1 in the SAC, while the Trojans improved to 7-6-3 overall and 2-6-3 in the league.
Anderson held a 21-11 advantage on shots as well as a 7-2 advantage on corner kicks. The Trojans' Brad Du Plooy led all players with three shots, while Mars Hill had several players collecting two shots each.
The match was an offensive struggle in the early going with neither team able to score the game's first goal. In the 23rd minute a shot from Cameron Macer glanced off the crossbar, denying the Lions a chance to take the lead. From that point the half was less eventful until Anderson's Cameron Emerson gained control of a ball that squeezed through the defense and blasted it past the Lions' keeper to give Anderson a one-goal advantage heading into the locker room.
Mars Hill could not gain any momentum over the final 45 minutes and Anderson added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute to eventually take the game 2-0.
The Lions will now wait to see who they play in the opening round of the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Championships beginning on Tuesday, November 1.
