
Lions Announce Challenging 2016 Campaign
MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill University Athletics Department and head coach Gary Hamel have announced a challenging 2016 soccer schedule that will feature nine home contests and three contests against opponents from Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference.

"We have put together another strong schedule which will challenge us and see where we stand in the Southeast Region. Hope the guys prepare well over the summer and come in ready", stated Hamel.
The Lions, who finished last season with a 4-10-1 mark overall and 3-7-1 record in league play, will kick off the season with a pair of exhibitions. The first will be on August 22nd against Spartanburg Methodist followed by an August 25th meeting with PBC member, Francis Marion.
Mars Hill will open the regular season on Thursday, September 1, taking on Limestone College at Meares Stadium before hitting the road for the first time on Wednesday, September 7 to take on King (Tenn.). Florida Southern will come to town two days later (9-9) for a scheduled 7 p.m. kickoff. The Blue and Gold will then start conference play on September 14, traveling to Wingate to take on the Bulldogs and then returning home on the 17th to open the home portion of the conference slate against Catawba.
The next two games will be on the road, meeting up with Carson-Newman on 9-21 and then heading to Brevard to take on the Tornado on 9-24. Conference Carolinas opponent, Lees-McRae will make the trip to the mountains on 9-28 to try its luck against the Lions. October 1 Mars Hill will travel to Hartsville, S.C. to take on league rival Coker before returning home for the next two matches versus Lenoir-Rhyne (10-5) and Queens (10-7).
The Lions will step outside of conference play on October 11 to take on a quality Lander team from the Peach Belt and then coming back to the SAC with a road contest against Tusculum on 10-15. Lincoln Memorial and Newberry will make visits to Mars Hill on October 19 and 22, respectively to round out the home slate. The season finale will take place in Anderson, S.C. on October 29 as a date with the Trojans has been slated.
The South Atlantic Conference Tournament will be held on November 1-6.
