MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (2-4-1, 0-3-0 SAC) was shutout by Coker (5-2-0, 1-1-0 SAC) Sunday afternoon by a score of 3-0.
Mars Hill controlled the action in the opening minutes, attempting several shots that were ultimately blocked. The Cobras struck twice in the first half as Lucas Miquel Castrillo scored in the 15th minute. In the 30th minute, Jacques Fokam-Sandeu netted his fourth of the season to put Coker up 2-0 with 15 minutes left in the half. Following a 30-minute lightning delay, Mars Hill closed out the half finding themselves down by two.
Off of a free kick in the 60th minute, Christian Provenzano, who assisted on the first Cobras' goal, drove home Coker's third on the afternoon and his fourth of the season. Late in the game, a Mars Hill cross was punched just over the crossbar by Guilermo Falo Ejea. Moments later, Sebastian Bertilsson's header off of a corner kick rang off the crossbar for the Lions' best opportunity on the afternoon.
The Lions outshot Coker 14-13 with Bertilsson leading all players with four shots.
Mars Hill returns to action on Wednesday, October 2 when they host Wingate inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Action is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
