ROME, Ga. - The Mars Hill men's soccer team (0-1-1) fell in their 2019 road opener versus Shorter (1-0) in non-conference play Saturday evening by a score of 3-1.
The Lions struck first in the 29th minute as senior Joakim Lien scored his first of the season, giving Mars Hill the 1-0 lead. Just under four minutes later, the Hawks would knot the game at one as Thallison Alex converted on a penalty kick goal.
Mars Hill outshot Shorter 7-3 in the first half, but ended the first 45 minutes tied at one.
Alex scored his second goal of the night and game-winner in the 57th minute to give the Hawks the 2-1 advantage. With 10:24 remaining in the contest, Jackson Wheatley added an insurance tally to put Shorter up 3-1.
Reversing the roles, Shorter outshot Mars Hill 9-1 in the second half to claim victory in their season opener.

Mars Hill returns home on Wednesday, September 11th as they face King inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Action is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
