Men's Swimming Picks Up Win at Igloo Invitational
SEWANEE, TENN. – The Mars Hill men’s swim team finished first out of seven teams during the final round of the 4th Igloo Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
SEWANEE, TENN. – The Mars Hill men's swim team finished first out of seven teams during the final round of the 4th Igloo Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Erwin Ortiz and Vitor Goncalves led the way for the Lions, each winning three events. Ortiz set a new meet record (4:40.07) as he tied for first in the 500 free, while also picking up a win in the 200 free and the 200 medley relay. Goncalves posted wins in the 50 and 100 free as well as being a member of the winning 200 free relay team.
Matthew Walker picked up where he left out last year during the Igloo Invitational, breaking his own record in the mile race by an outstanding 14 seconds (16:32.88). Harrison Butler, Elijah Sears, and Ryan Martin were all members of both the 200 free and medley relay winning teams.
The Lions finished first with 900 points, easily distancing themselves from second-place Asbury University, who scored 702 points.
The meet concludes the fall portion of the Lions schedule and they will return to the pool on Friday, January 13, 2017 as they travel to Bristol, Tenn. to dual with King. That meet is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
