Women's Basketball defeats Francis Marion<br><i>Lindsey Wilson drops Lenoir-Rhyne</i>
MARS HILL, N.C. - Mars Hill outscored Francis Marion 40-29 in the second half to pull off a 77-58 victory inside Stanford Arena in the final game Saturday of the Biltmore Farms/Mars Hill Classic.
The Lions (3-1), currently riding a three-game winning streak, opened the first 2:45 of the contest on an 11-0 run, spurred by three three-pointers, two coming from Tyler Carlson. A bucket by Danielle Tucker made the score 13-3 four minutes into the first half.
An old-fashioned three-point play by Francis Marion's Carmella Thompson cut the deficit to five points, 17-12, eight minutes into the game. Trailing 26-19, the Patriots (0-2) went on an 8-2 spurt. A bucket by T.T. Belcher at the 6:03 mark made the score 28-27 in favor of the Lions, but Mars Hill outscored Francis Marion 9-2 down the stretch to lead 37-29 at halftime. The Patriots turned the ball over 19 times in the first half compared to only nine times by the Lions.
Mars Hill scored the first four points of the second half to take a 41-29 advantage, helped by consecutive layups by Tucker and Taylor Deal. From there, the Lions pulled away and led by as many as 21 points, 77-56, off two free throws by Tucker with 1:40 left in the game.
Mars Hill's Kristen Metcalf scored a game-high 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 4-of-6 from distance. Deal followed up with 15 points. Tucker came up with 12. Ansley Ricker and Armeka Booker tallied 10 apiece.
Belcher and Thompson each scored a team-high 12 points. Thompson and Belcher also had 11 and nine rebounds, respectively. Simone Trice had totaled eight points and 10 rebounds.
Mars Hill shot 38.5% (25-of-65) from the field in the contest. Francis Marion was 20-of-59 (33.9%) in the game. The Patriots ended the game with 36 turnovers, while the Lions had only 19.
Mars Hill will host Pfeiffer on Tuesday, Nov. 22. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

MARS HILL, N.C. - A late second-half surge by Lindsey Wilson's Jasmine Brimm sparked her team to a 56-52 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday in the Biltmore Farms/Mars Hill Classic.
Lindsey Wilson (4-2) opened the first 2:30 of the game on a 9-0 run, highlighted by a bank three-pointer from Monny Niamke. The Blue Raiders led 11-3 after a layup by Laura Skurdra at the 15:56 mark in the first half.
Lenoir-Rhyne (3-1) answered with a 15-4 run and took its first lead of the game under eight minutes. A putback by Kristine Rishel made the score 16-15 in favor of the Bears.
A layup by Kasey Litzinger regained the lead for Lindsey Wilson, 19-18, with 5:15 left in the first period, but a trey from Lenoir-Rhyne's Jenni Gust gave her team a 23-21 upper hand at the 3:15 mark. The Bears never trailed for the rest of the first period and led 30-25 at halftime.
Lenoir-Rhyne took a 34-25 advantage two minutes into the second half off a layup by Jazmine Charles. A layup by Krystal Patton gave the Bears their first double-digit margin of the second half, 42-32, with 12:36 remaining in the game.
A steal by Niamke and fastbreak layup by Taylor Lockridge cut the deficit to 46-39 with a little over seven minutes left. Trailing by 10, Brimm scored seven straight points to cut the margin to 50-47 at the 3:30 mark. Consecutive layups by Niamke and Ashley Franklin gave the Blue Raiders a one-point advantage, 51-50, with 1:30 left in regulation, a lead they would never relinquish.
Brimm finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Franklin and Skudra added nine and eight points, respectively.
Sealey had a team-high 13 points. Whitley Culler recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Lindsey Wilson shot 40% (20-of-50) from the field. Lenoir-Rhyne was 19-of-57 (33.3%) from the court.
