Women’s Basketball Wins at Amstrong Atlantic
Tucker records double-double
SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Lions' women's basketball team won a close contest on the road Friday afternoon at Armstrong Atlantic State by a 73-69 margin in Alumni Arena. Danielle Tucker posted a double-double with 26 points and 14 rebounds, both were her career highs.
Following Tucker's performance was Armeka Booker who added 11 points and nine boards. Taylor Deal came off the bench to scored eight points and pull down seven rebounds. Demisha Mills led the Pirates with 22 points while Mauri Wells recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Both teams took their season record to 7-4.
The first half was closely played as neither team led by more than five points. MHC went on a 9-6 run in the last three minutes of the first half to take a 42-39 advantage into the locker room at the intermission.
The Lions came out of the locker room at the half on fire going on a 14-4 run to take a commanding 13-point lead (56-43) at the 14:06 mark after Tucker scored inside. The Pirates would not give up as they answered with a 21-7 run of their own over the next nine minutes to take a 64-63 lead with 5:11 left in regulation after Mills hit a shot in the lane. The final five minutes saw two lead changes and the same number of ties before Tucker gave the Lions the lead for good on a layup with 20 ticks left. AASU turned the ball over on their next possession and they were forced to foul Tyler Carlson who calmly sank her shots at the charity stripe to make the final tally 73-69 in favor of the visitors.
MHC will host SAC rival Newberry on January 4. Tip-off in Stanford Arena is set for 6 p.m.
