BREVARD, N.C. – Mars Hill defeated SAC rival Brevard 1-0 in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action Saturday evening. The Lions improved to 1-5-1 overall and 1-3 in the league. The Tornados fell to 5-4-1 on the year and 0-4 in the conference.
Breona Tate scored the match winning goal at the 58:43 mark off a breakaway. The score was assisted by Aleonya Hunter. Mars Hill's defense held strong the entire match recording their first shutout of the season.
The Tornados outshot the Lions 18-14. Corner kicks were knotted at four apiece. Maslyn Greene played all 90 minutes in goal for the Lions and made a season high eight saves. Following Tate offensively, Ashlyn Perkins had two shots on goal while Natasha Castellano, Alyssa Deno and Abby Mills each tallied one shot on goal. Elise Youmans also played the entire match in the net for the Tornados and made four saves.
Mars Hill will play at Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday, September 29. Match time is slated for a 5 p.m. start.
