Tate Leads Women's Soccer To Win Over Emmanuel

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill women's soccer team picked up a non-conference win over Emmanuel (Ga.) on Tuesday, October 11. The Lions improved to 4-7-1 overall, while EC dropped to 1-10-2.
Mars Hill wasted no time breaking through on the scoreboard as Breona Tate sent a perfect ball to Aleonya Hunter who blasted it past the keeper just over two minutes into the contest, giving MHU a 1-0 lead. Mars Hill's defense was solid during the opening 45, allowing only one shot on goal.
Midfielder Julia Johnson padded the Mars Hill lead in the 37th minute, collecting a rebound and blasting the rock into the back of the cage, while Tate tallied her second assist of the evening. That two goal lead would remain the same heading into the half.
Alyssa Deno had an opportunity to open the second half with a goal, but the Emmanuel keeper just got her right boot on the ball and knocked it away. Tate added her fourth point of the match in the 57th minute, racing past a defender and scoring at a difficult angle to give Mars Hill a 3-0 lead.
That would be all the scoring the Blue and Gold needed, blanking EC by that same score. MHU outshot Emmanuel by a whopping margin of 20-1, while also taking four corners compared to two for the Lions of EC. Emannuel's goalie came up with nine saves on the night.
Tate and Deno led Mars Hill with four shots each. Kaitlyn Danglemaier played all 90 minutes in goal, picking up her first win on the season.
Mars Hill will be back in action on Friday, October 14, traveling to Greenville, Tenn. to take on Tusculum. That match is slated to start at 5:00 p.m.
