Women's Swimming Adds Six to 2017-18 Team
Head Swimming Coach Teddy Guyer has announced six additions to the 2017-18 Women's Swimming Team.
MARS HILL, N.C. - Head Swimming Coach Teddy Guyer has announced six additions to the 2017-18 Women's Swimming Team. The committents include Bailee Bolin, Ashley Hicks, Haley Horton, Savannah Mattox, Sarah Shapiro and Emma Welborn.
Bailee Bolin is from Ocala, Fla., where she attended Forest High School and swam for Coach Brian Kuhn and Joey Lane. Bailee swims year round for the Central Florida Marlins under Coach Bill Vargo. She was a Regional Qualifier all four years in the 200 individual medley and three years in the 100 breast stroke. Bailee is the daughter of Pam and Scott Bolin. |

Ashley Hicks is from Ararat, N.C., where she attended East Surry High School and swam under the direction of Leah Tunstall. She also swam for PAC swimming which is also coached by Leah Tunstall. Ashley is a state finalist in the 100 back stroke and 100 free, while also qualifying for the Senior State Championship for the past four years. Ashley is the daughter of Jason and Allison Hicks. |

Haley Horton is from Greensboro, N.C. where she attended South-West Guilford High School. She swam under the direction of William Bradshaw while also swimming for the Greensboro Community YMCA coached by Brad Herndon. Haley is a four-year varsity athlete and was awarded MVP her sophomore and senior year of high school She was also awarded the 4A Conference Swimmer of the Year for the 2016-17 season. Haley qualified for the YMCA Nationals and participated yearly in the N.C. high school Regional and State meets. Haley is the daughter of Randy and Lesa Horton. |

Savannah Maddox is from Swan Point, Md., where she attended La Plata High School and swam under the direction of Mary Jane Brown Cupples. Savannah is a four-time state qualifier and was voted the most valuable female athlete for the class of 2017. Savannah is the daughter of Robert and Rebecca Maddox. |

Sarah Shapiro is from Weaverville, N.C., where she attended North Buncombe High School. There she swam under coach Kaley Ballard while also swimming for the Mars Hill Makos under the direction of Tiffany Golding. Sarah has qualified for the North Carolina high school Regional meet three times and made it to the State Championship meet her senior year. Sarah is the daughter of Suzanne and Steven Shapiro. |

Emma Welborn is from Marion, N.C., where she attended McDowell High School and swam for Leigh Anne Crowder and Megan Ziegler. She also swam for the McDowell Mariners swim team, which was also under the direction of Leigh Anne Crowder. She was a yearly 4A Regional swimmer and was the captain of her high school swim team. Emma is the daughter of Barry and Kimberly Welborn. |
