MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (19-25, 19-25, 17-25) decision to Lincoln Memorial during South Atlantic Conference action on Tuesday, October 25. The Lions dropped to 6-16 overall and 5-10 in the conference, while LMU improved to 19-4 overall and 13-2 in the league.
Rebecca Butler and Mary Kate Griffin paced the Lions offensively with 10 kills each, while Victoria Kaiser and Sara Fahrenbrook chipped on 15 digs and 31 assists, respectively.
Mars Hill ripped off the first two points in set one behind Griffin's back-to-back service aces, but the Railsplitters quickly turned the momentum around with an 11-4 run. That lead would not be relinquished as LMU took the set 25-19.
The Lions came out in set two with more energy, jumping out to a 10-5 lead early. However, Lincoln Memorial used a massive 15-4 run to take absolute control of the set, eventually grabbing a commanding 2-0 match lead with a 25-19 set win.
Set three was back-and-forth from the beginning until LMU took a 10-all tie and turned it into a 20-12 lead. The deficit was too much for the Lions as they dropped set three 25-17 and the match 3-0.
Mars Hill will return to the court on Friday, October 28 as it welcomes Catawba into Chambers Gymnasium for a pivotal conference tilt. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
