
Goddard leads four Lions to All-SAC teams
Senior outside hitter Sarah Goddard leads four Lions on to All-South Atlantic Conference team selections, as released by the league Wednesday morning.
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Senior outside hitter Sarah Goddard leads four Lions on to All-South Atlantic Conference team selections, as released by the league Wednesday morning.
Goddard, a native of Las Vegas, Nevada, was named to the All-SAC Second Team and was second in the conference in kills with 389, establishing a new career-high. She added 354 digs with ranked 13th in the conference and was also a career-high. She dropped double-digit kills 24 of the team's matches including back-to-back 20-plus kills efforts versus Queens (26 - career-high) and Catawba (24).
Both Jana Cuk and Ully Martins were named to the Third Team. Both were preseason All-SAC First Team selections. Cuk, a junior from Valjevo, Serbia, ranked sixth in kills with 300 and ninth in blocks with 86. She led the Lions and placed ninth in the SAC with 36 service aces.
Martins, a senior libero from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, destroyed her previous career-highs, recording 765 digs to lead the SAC by nearly 200 digs. That total places her first in Division II. Her 6.32 digs per set also lead the SAC by .65 per set and ranks eighth best in the country. She was named the statistical champion and helped lead the Lions to being the statistical champions as a team in digs per set with 20.21; also first in the country. Martins set the MHU record for most career digs on November 5 versus Wingate and currently sits at 2,425 and set the school record for most digs in a single season. Martins added 159 assists, 24 aces, and six kills.
Freshman Nikkayla Stewart was named to the All-SAC Freshmen Team recording 113 kills and 100 blocks on the year. Stewart, a native of Greeneville, Tennessee, ranked sixth in the conference with her 100 blocks, fourth in block assists.
