MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (3-4) defeated Young Harris (3-5) by a score of 76-64 Saturday afternoon inside Chambers Gymnasium.
The Lions led 20-12 after the first 10 minutes of play as Maddie Gillie was a force on both sides of the ball. She led alll players with eight points and five rebounds. Jo Snow added six points for the Lions, draining two three-pointers in the frame.
Mars Hill outscored Young Harris 15-12 to carry an 11-point lead into the half. Tateyoina Harris led Mars Hill with four points while the trio of Gillie, Halei Gillis, and Naja Ngongba added three each.
Young Harris hit 56 percent of their shots in the third quarter, cutting the Mars Hill lead down to two entering the final 10 minutes of play. Taylor Gardner led Young Harris with six points while the duo of JaMari Frederick and Trinity Edwards added five apiece. Gillie led Mars Hill with six points.
The Lions pulled away in the fourth, outscoring Young Harris 27-17. Snow went a perfect 3-for-3 in the quarter, hitting all three-point attempts. Elyseia Brown added six points. Mars Hill hit a game-high 64 percent of their shots from the floor, going 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.
Gillie led all players with 19 points and added nine rebounds. Snow hit a game-high six three-pointers for 18 points and added a game-high five assists. Harris ended the contest with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double.
Mars Hill wraps up their six-game homestand on Wednesday, December 6 when they host Emory & Henry in their South Atlantic Conference opener. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
