Gillie ties school record, sets career-high in win over Tusculum

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill women's basketball team (10-11, 4-6 SAC) defeated Tusculum (3-15, 1-11 SAC) by a score of 80-67 Wednesday evening inside Chambers Gymnasium.
Maddie Gillie set a career-high with 32 points, tying a school record with nine made three-pointers.
The Lions led 32-28 after the first half of play as Jo Snow hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer. Snow closed the half out with eight points. Gillie led all players with 18 points, scoring the Lions' first 12 in the half off of four made threes. She ended the half with five made threes.
Ni'Kiah Chesterfield led Tusculum with 10 points while the duo of Lexi Patty and Jordyn Roderick added five apiece.
The Lions outscored Tusculum 48-39 in the second half as the duo of Gillie and Snow led the Lions offensively. Snow ended the night with 23 points. Tateyoina Harris led all players with nine rebounds. Snow added a game-high seven assists.
Mars Hill, with their 10th win of the season, marks the first season since the 2015-16 campaign.
The Lions return to action on Saturday, February 3 when they host UVA Wise. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
