Snow scores season-high 24 on road versus UVA Wise

WISE, Va. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (6-7, 1-3 SAC) opened their 2024 slate on the road versus UVA Wise (6-6, 2-3 SAC), falling by a score of 87-83.
The Lions led 21-20 after the first quarter of play as Jo Snow led the team with eight points. The trio of Tateyoina Harris, Halei Gillis, and Maddie Gillie each pulled down three rebounds while Gillie added six points.
The teams combined for 54 points in the second quarter with the Cavaliers netting 30 in the frame. Sable Burnside led all players with nine points, hitting all four shots she attempted. UVA Wise hit 6-of-7 threes attempted and went 11-of-15 from the floor. Jadiyah Peoples led the Lions with seven points followed by five from Snow.
In the third quarter, Snow led all players with 11 points while Aaliyah El added four. The Lions outscored UVA Wise 20-14 to carry a 65-64 lead into the fourth.
UVA Wise rallied in the fourth, outscoring the Lions 23-18 in the final 10 minutes. The duo of Caitlyn Ross and Sarah Burton each netted six in the final. Gillie led the Lions with seven points followed by five El.
Ross led the Cavaliers with 24 points and 10 assists for the double-double. Burnside added 17 while Burton added 16 for UVA Wise. The team hit 14 threes on the night.
Snow led Mars Hill with a season-high 24 points, hitting five threes on the night. Gillie ended the night with 18 points while El netted 16, adding four rebounds and three assists.
Mars Hill returns home on Saturday, January 6 when they host Anderson. Tipoff inside Chambers Gymnasium is set for 2 p.m.
