Lions topple Blue Bears in non-conference action

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball team (9-11) defeated Livingstone (4-11) by a score of 78-59 Saturday afternoon inside Chambers Gymnasium in non-conference play.
Mars Hill led 33-26 at the half following a strong second quarter as the team shot 57 percent from the floor, hitting five threes. Maddie Gillie led the Lions with nine points off of three makes from beyond the arc followed by seven points from Elyseia Brown. Aaliyah El led all players with four rebounds in the frame.
The Lions put up a game-high 25 points in the third, once again shooting 50 percent in the frame. Jo Snow led all players with 12 points, hitting three threes and 3-of-4 free throw attempts. Gillie chipped in with five points.
In the fourth, the Lions cemented the win, hitting 6-of-11 shots with Jadiyah Peoples leading all players with nine points.
Snow led all players with 21 points followed by 19 from Gillie. Naja Ngongba led all players with 12 rebounds while Jaquoria Rucker led all players with four assists.
Mars Hill returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday, January 31 when they face the Pioneers of Tusculum. Tipoff inside Chambers Gymnasium is set for 5:30 p.m.
