Lions felled on road versus Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Mars Hill women's basketball (8-11, 3-6 SAC) was defeated by Newberry (6-12, 4-6 SAC) by a score of 66-58 Wednesday evening on the road.
The Lions led 15-13 after the first with Maddie Gillie's six points leading the way. Aaliyah El added four points. April Rummery-Lamb led all players with eight points in the quarter.
Newberry flipped the score in the second, tying the game at 28 heading into the half. Rummery-Lamb led the Wolves once again with six points. Gillie led all players with seven in the second followed by El's four.
The Wolves carried a nine-point advantage into the fourth, outscoring the Lions 23-14. Rummery-Lamb posted 14 points, going 7-of-7 from the floor while pulling down nine rebounds. Gillie netted eight of the Lions' 14 points.
Mars Hill, in the final frame, outscored the Wolves 16-15 with a balanced scoring attack. Gillie netted five while Jadiyah Peoples added four, followed by Naja Ngongba's three.
Rummery-Lamb led all players with 33 points and 18 rebounds for the double-double. Deshona Gaither added 14 points. Gillie led the Lions with 26 points while both El and Peoples each added 10 points and eight rebounds.
Mars Hill kicks off a four-game homestand on Saturday, January 27 when they host Livingstone in non-conference play. Tipoff inside Chambers Gymnasium is set for 2 p.m.
