Stevens wins heat, places 8th in triple jump at ETSU Invitational
Shaniqua Stevens placed eighth overall in the triple jump prelims for the Mars Hill women's track and field team after Day 1 of the East Tennessee State University Invitational.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Shaniqua Stevens placed eighth overall in the triple jump prelims for the Mars Hill women's track and field team after Day 1 of the East Tennessee State University Invitational.
Stevens won her heat with a mark of 10.9m (35'9.25") early Friday morning. The mark stuck to place the junior in the top 10 finishers at the end of the day. With the distance, Stevens set a Mars Hill school record and placed second among fellow DII competitors.
Four Lions participated in the 60 meter race, featuring a 39th place finish by Shahnika Williams. Placing third in her preliminary heat, Williams finished with a time of 8.21 to stay just inside the top 40 participants. Arriel Smith, with a time of 8.51, finished 60th overall. Azyia Poore and A'yanna Dennis placed 65th and 75th overall with times of 8.66 and 9.10, respectively. Williams, Smith and Dennis also partook in the 200 meter, placing 69th, 82nd and 95th, respectively, out of 112 runners. Smith, with a time of 28.59, placed third in her heat.
Sydney Britt ran in the 800 meter, posting a time of 2:45.89.
