Mars Hill falls to Queens in four on road

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team dropped a four set contest against Queens on the road Friday evening. The loss ended their two-game winning streak.
The Royals jumped out to a commanding 1-0 lead, dominating the first set by a score of 25-14. Queens led by 11 points three separate times in the frame to coast to the early lead.
Mars Hill led late in the second set 17-16 before Queens captured the next three points to take the lead. They held on 25-21 to go up two sets against the Lions in a more tightly contested frame.
The Lions roared back in the contest, taking the third set by a 25-21 score. Mars Hill never trailed in the set and looked to carry over the momentum into the fourth.
Finding their dominant game once again, the Royals channeled their first set performance and capitalized on opportunities against the Lions backcourt. Queens had four players amass 10 or more kills in the contest and were led by Rebecca Cochran's 16 on the evening. Casey Tarvin's 13th kill on the night sealed the Lions' fate as they fell 25-16 in the fourth set.
Sydney Kunz, second in the SAC in assists, had 52 in the contest to lead all players. JayCee Jones dug a game-high 23 balls.
Lauren Hochstetler was the lone Lions' player with 10 or more kills, ending the night with 13. Rebecca Butler and Sally Johnson each had nine on the evening. Johnson had a game-high .643 hitting percentage. Elizabeth Kaeser led the team with 19 digs and chipped in eight kills. Sarah Pasour had 24 assists.
Mars Hill sits at 7-14 (5-9 SAC) after the contest as Queens improves to 17-5 (11-4 SAC).
The Lions will look to bounce back on Saturday, October 28 when they square off against Wingate. The contest is slated to begin at 2 p.m
