Athletic Highlights: September 17 – September 24, 2018
Football: The Mars Hill football team earned their first victory of the season with an exciting 39-33 win over SAC rival Catawba at home this Saturday. Craig Rucker scored three times on 11 catches for 174 yards, including the game-winning touchdown with 30 seconds remaining. With his performance, Rucker earned the South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week. Jaques Buchannon rushed for 224 yards on 26 carries and one touchdown. Austin Brown threw for 248 yards and three scores on 21 completions. Trey Giles had a team-high 10 tackles.
Men's Soccer: Mars Hill went 1-1 this past week, defeating Lenoir-Rhyne 2-1 at home Wednesday night, but falling 1-0 on the road to Anderson Saturday evening. Adnan Saltagic and Carlo Pere were the goal scorers in the win over the Bears.
Women's Soccer: The Lions dropped both contests this week, losing 4-2 to Lenoir-Rhyne Wednesday night and 6-0 to Anderson on Saturday night. Sanne Martinsen scored both goals in the loss to the Bears and leads the team with four goals.
Men's Cross Country: The Lions placed third at the Bulldog Stampede held on Saturday morning. Nick Resor turned in a time of 28:40.19 which was good for 12th overall and the top Lions finisher.
Women's Cross Country: Mars Hill placed third overall at the Bulldog Stampede held in Charlotte on Saturday morning. Nyla Feeney placed second overall with a time of 24:39.08.
Volleyball: Mars Hill went 2-1 during the week, dropping a five set thriller against Lenoir-Rhyne on Tuesday, but taking down Queens in four and Catawba in five on Friday night and Saturday afternoon, respectively. Elizabeth Kaeser had 45 kills, 42 digs and seven aces. Sara Pasour had 64 digs and 79 assists.
