Lions fall to Erskine in non-conference tilt
The Mars Hill baseball team (4-10) fell to Erskine (8-7) Tuesday afternoon in non-conference play by a score of 12-3.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (4-10) fell to Erskine (8-7) Tuesday afternoon in non-conference play by a score of 12-3.
The Flying Fleet did the most damage in the top of the first inning, recording six runs. The first seven batters reached base and the duo of Livan and Dayan Reinoso each hit two-run home runs in the frame. In the bottom of the first, Ruben Trillo narrowed the deficit to four with a two-run double to right center field, plating Kameron Reynolds and Tyler Lala.
Erskine added four more runs over the next two inning as Dayan Reinoso picked up his third RBI of the contest with a RBI single to left field in the top of the third.
In the bottom of the fourth, Jordan Lathe cracked a home run over the left field fence, his second in as many games. Responding in the top of the fifth, the Flying Fleet added two more runs to build their lead to nine runs.
Gregory Sanders and Xander Vizzcorando led all players with three hits on the day while Livan and Dayan Reinoso, along with Drew Yniesta each recorded three RBI. Lathe led the Lions with two hits while Trillo collected two RBI on the day.
The Flying Fleet defense quelled several Lions' rallies, recording four double-plays in the game. Graham McCurry picked up the win, allowing two runs on three hits in two innings pitched. Sam Kaplan was credited with the loss.
Mars Hill returns to South Atlantic Conference action on Friday, February 28 when they take to the road to face Carson-Newman. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
