
Mars Hill downed by Belmont Abbey
BELMONT, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (1-3) was defeated by Belmont Abbey (3-1) by a score of 13-10 Wednesday afternoon on the road.
The teams were tied at 10 heading into the bottom of the eighth. The Crusaders plated three unanswered runs, highlighted by two RBI singles, clinching the victory.
Walker Fox opened the scoring for Mars Hill in the top of the first, plating two with a double down the right field line. Belmont Abbey answered in bottom of the frame with a Jackson Risk three-run home run.
Mars Hill plated four in the top of the third highlighted by Dawson Anderson's two-run single, putting the Lions up 6-3 after three.
Belmont Abbey, through the fourth and fifth innings, put up seven runs, including six in the fifth. Michael Fattore picked up three RBI in the frame with a bases clearing double, putting the Crusaders up 10-6.
The Lions plated runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to rally and tie the game at 10. Chapel Matson kicked off the four-run comeback with a two-run single in the sixth. Elec Yount pulled Mars Hill within one with a RBI double to right field, plating Anderson. In the top of the eighth, Quinn Rembert's sacrifice fly to center, followed by a Crusaders' error allowed Fox to score the tying run.
Fattore led all players with four RBI while Jack Boyles led Belmont Abbey with three hits.
Carter Potts led the Lions with three hits while the trio of Fox, Matson, and Anderson each recorded two RBI apiece.
Mars Hill opens their home slate on Wednesday, February 5 when they host King at Henderson Field. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
