MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill baseball team (10-25, 4-14 SAC) dropped both games versus Limestone (17-18, 11-10 SAC) Saturday afternoon, falling by scores of 13-9 and 6-2.
GAME ONE: LU 13, MHU 9
Despite a late offensive surge, Mars Hill fell to Limestone, 13-9, in Saturday's SAC matchup at Henderson Field.
Chapel Matson led the Lions with a strong showing at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a three-run homer. Jackson Jones and Walker Fox each drove in two runs, while Elec Yount and Dawson Anderson added RBI contributions. Mars Hill totaled 16 hits on the day.
Limestone's offense proved relentless, racking up 18 hits. Adams Faucett paced the Saints with three hits and three RBIs, while Sion Barnette and Zach Greenberg each added two RBIs. Corey Hodierne went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a triple.
Starting pitcher Dustin Dunlap took the loss for the Lions, while Limestone's Kemper Nix earned the win after five solid innings.
GAME TWO: LU 6, MHU 2
Mars Hill dropped the series finale to Limestone on Friday afternoon, falling 6-2 in a seven-inning contest at Henderson Field.
The Lions put together a solid third inning, cutting into an early Limestone lead. Walker Fox drove in the first run with an RBI single, followed by a sacrifice fly from Chapel Matson to make it 3-2. However, Mars Hill was held scoreless the rest of the way as Limestone added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh.
Dawson Anderson, Peyton Starkey, and Terick Bumgarner each recorded hits, while Brennan Williams tossed a complete game on the mound, giving up 12 hits and six earned runs across seven innings of work.
Limestone was led by Davis Turner (2-for-3, 2 RBIs, 2 doubles), Winston Parke (2-for-3, 2 RBIs), and Ben Partridge (2-for-2, 2 RBIs). Pitcher Jake Contino earned the win, striking out six and walking just two in a complete game effort.
Mars Hill faces Lenoir-Rhyne in game one of their weekend series on Friday, April 4 on the road. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
