Mars Hill falls to No. 16 L-R
Lions open 2025 home slate versus Bears.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (4-9, 2-9 SAC) was defeated by No. 16 Lenoir-Rhyne (12-2, 9-1 SAC) by a score of 92-81 Wednesday afternoon inside Chambers Gymnasium.
The first half saw the Lions keep within two points of the Bears until the final few minutes of the frame. Lenoir-Rhyne converted key shots down the stretch to enter the half up by nine. Sam Martin led all players with 13 points while Tay Smith added 11 and led the team with four rebounds.
Kadyn Dawkins went 4-of-5 from the floor and hit both free throw attempts to lead the Lions with 11 points. Daniel Mayfield added six points as Marvin Hires, Dinari Boykin, and Donovan McIntosh led the team with three rebounds apiece.
The Bears outscored Mars Hill 49-47 in the final 20 minutes of play, shooting over 55 percent from the floor. Conrad Luczynski led the team with 10 points and five rebounds. Chase McWhite led Mars Hill with 10 points while Dawkins added another eight points. Mayfield led all players with six rebounds.
Martin led all players with 21 points followed by 16 from Luczynski. Julian Dozier led all players with eight assists.
Dawkins led Mars Hill with 19 points while McWhite ended the night with 13. Mayfield led the Lions with seven rebounds.
Mars Hill returns to action on Saturday, January 11 when they host Wingate. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
