Lions felled by Newberry
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's basketball team (6-10, 4-10 SAC) was defeated by Newberry (8-9, 5-6 SAC) by a score of 84-73 Saturday evening on the road.
Newberry was led by Drew Robinson's 13 first half points as the team hit 56 percent of their shots from the floor. Devario Sheppard added 10 followed by seven from Drake Downs. Dinari Boykin led the way offensively for the Lions, netting a team-high 12 points in the opening 20 minutes. Kory Davis added eight while Kendall Davis chipped in with six points.
A closer played second half saw Newberry ultimately pull away late, sinking clutch free throws in the final few minutes to secure the season sweep. Downs led all players with 15 points while Booker Cusaac added 10, hitting all six free throw attempts.
Kadyn Dawkins led Mars Hill with nine points in the half followed by Kory Davis' eight. Kendall Davis scored seven of the Lions' 11 second half bench points while Dallas Kendall netted four.
Kory Davis led the team with 16 points as Boykin ended the night with 14. Kendall Davis scored 13 while Dawkins added 11 in the contest.
Mars Hill returns home on Wednesday, January 22 when they host Carson-Newman. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. inside Chambers Gymnasium.
