MELBOURNE, Fla. – Mars Hill's lacrosse team lost 10-7 to Florida Tech Sunday afternoon at FIT Panther Stadium. The Lions fell to 0-4 overall while the Panthers improved to 3-1 on the season.
A.J. Seip and Nathan Stewart led Mars Hill with three goals apiece. Stewart added a pair of assists and five ground balls. Ryan Kearney played all 60 minutes in goal for MHU and made 11 saves.
Brian Bacarella recorded three goals while Tyler Covey scored two goals and added the same number of assists to pace the Panthers offensively. Christian Koch played the entire game in the net for FIT and made four saves. The Panthers outshot the Lions 35-22 and won the ground ball battle, 37-26. FIT won 12-21 face-offs. Neither team took advantage of extra-man opportunities. Mars Hill was 0-3 while FIT was 0-2.
FIT jumped out to a 4-2 lead after the first quarter and then won the second quarter 4-1 to take an 8-3 advantage into the locker room at halftime. Mars Hill won both the third and fourth quarters by a 2-1 margin to make the final tally 10-7 in favor of the hosts.
Mars Hill will open South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday, March 5, hosting Wingate University. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
