Lacrosse Loses to Belmont Abbey

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lions' lacrosse team dropped a 17-0 non-conference decision to no. 15 Belmont Abbey Saturday afternoon at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill fell to 3-10 on the season while the Crusaders improved to 11-3 overall.
Prior to the game, Mars Hill recognized their two senior players. Foluke Gordon-Lamar and A.J. Seip played their final home game in Meares Stadium.
Seip led Mars Hill with seven shots followed by Dima Ferriera with four attempts. Ryan Kearney played all 60 minutes in goal for the Lions and made 18 saves that tied his season and career personal high.
Belmont Abbey outshot Mars Hill 47-16, won 15-21 face-offs and were 3-3 on extra-man opportunities. The Crusaders edged the Lions 32-27 in the ground ball battle.
Connor Sellars and Callum Tanner led the Crusaders with four goals apiece. Sellars added three assists. Adam Wiedemann tallied three goals and five assists. Harley Whitham played the first 30 minutes in the net and made five saves. Ryan McLoughlin played the final 30 minutes in goal for the Crusaders and made three saves.
The Crusaders jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and then scored six additional goals in the second frame to take a 10-0 advantage into the locker room at the intermission.
Belmont Abbey then recorded six goals in the third stanza to lead 16-0 heading into the last period. A solo goal in the fourth quarter made the final tally 17-0 in favor of the visitors.
Mars Hill will play at North Greenville on Wednesday, April 20. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
