The Mars Hill men’s tennis team won four of six singles matches to claim a 5-4 victory over Carson-Newman
JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. - The Mars Hill men's tennis team won four of six singles matches to claim a 5-4 victory over Carson-Newman at the Carson-Newman Tennis Complex on Saturday. Mars Hill improves to 5-4 overall and 1-3 in South Atlantic Conference play while Carson-Newman drops to 0-3 and 0-1.
Euquerio Guerrero and Alberto Ortiz each won two matches. The two teamed up at the top doubles flight to defeat Stefano Daza and Garret Duron 8-2. Guerrero, the reigning AstroTurf SAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, won his fifth straight singles match at the top court with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Joao Pedro Oliveria. Ortiz was a winner in three sets over Daza, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
Carlos Suares Riesco dropped the first set at number four singles before rallying to defeat Kevin Mendes 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. Sam Lee was a winner at number five singles, defeating Duron 6-3, 6-2.
Mars Hill will host Lenoir-Rhyne on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
