Mars Hill finishes day one of SAC Championships in sixth
The Mars Hill men's track and field team sits in sixth place after day one of the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Championships.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Mars Hill men's track and field team sits in sixth place after day one of the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Championships.
Through six scored events, the Lions have accumulated 14 points. They trail Lenoir-Rhyne by six points for fifth.
Spencer Shade earned eight points for Mars Hill with a second place finish in the pole vault. He tied Carson-Newman's Noah Robertson with a mark of 4.25m (13'11.25").
In the 10,000 meter run, Noah Allison collected four points with a fifth place finish. He turned in a time of 32:18.11. Ethan Murray recorded the last two points on the day for the Lions with a seventh place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. He ran a time of 10:17.43.
Nicholas Izquierdo advanced out of the 400 meter dash preliminaries placing seventh overall with a time of 50.40.
Placing first in his heat and fifth overall in the 200 meter dash preliminaries, Cameron France ran a time of 22.02.
Corey Whaley competed in the first five events of the decathlon on Thursday. He placed sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.16, but bounced back with a third place finish in the long jump, recording a mark of 5.74m (18'10"). He repeated those same finishes in the shot put and high jump, respectively. Whaley posted a mark of 8.85m (29'0.50) in the shot put and 1.67m (5'5.75") in the high jump. His best event of the day came in the 400 meter dash where he placed second with a time of 55.31.
