Men's Cross Country Finishes in 27th at NCAA Championship Meet
The Mars Hill men’s cross country team finished in 27th place at the 2014 NCAA Championship meet.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Mars Hill men's cross country team finished in 27th place out of 32 teams at the 2014 NCAA Championship meet held at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park on Saturday morning. The course was shortened from 10 kilometers to 9.65 kilometers due to extremely wet conditions following several days of rain in the Louisville area.
Alex Griggs led the Lions with 71st place finish with a time of 32:15.60. Running his final collegiate race, Derek Gibson crossed the finish line with a 143rd place finish in 33:12. Garrett Farrimond completed the course in 33:38.40 for a 160th place finish, followed by Nathan Jones in 166th with a time of 33:48.90. Cesar Reyes was the final Lion to finish in a scoring position, crossing the finish line in 34:24.80 for a 188th place finish. Brandon Beard finished with a time of 35:43.30, with Gil Gilreath finishing his first NCAA Championship meet in 36:37.20.
Adams State (Colo.) was the team champion, finishing with 69 points, followed by Grand Valley State (Mich.) with 127. Tabor Stevens of Adams State was the individual winner in 30:02.00
Mars Hill completes the 2014 season having won their 18th consecutive South Atlantic Conference title and their first Southeast Regional title since 2010.
