Women’s Basketball wins at Catawba, 61-51
Deal scores game-high 19 points
SALISBURY, N.C. - Mars Hill got 19 points and eight rebounds from Taylor Deal as the Lions knocked off host Catawba 61-51 in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night at Goodman Gym. The Lions improve to 13-4 overall and 6-3 in the SAC. The Catawba Indians drop to 11-8 and 5-4, losing for the fourth straight time.
Mars Hill used a late run in the first half to take a lead it never gave back. Tied at 20-all with 7:17 to go before the break, the Lions scored 13 straight points. The Lions led 35-24 at the half. Catawba shot just 20% (7-for-35) in the opening 20 minutes and did not make a field goal over the final nine minutes of the half.
Catawba managed to get as close as three at 46-43 with 7:24 remaining, but continued to struggle from the field and could never tie the contest. The Lady Indians shot just 21.7% for the game (15-of-69), while Mars Hill connected on 41% (24-of-28).
Tyler Carlson added 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists for Mars Hill. Margaret Harvey grabbed a dozen rebounds.
Dana Hicks posted a double-double for Catawba with 18 points and 16 rebounds. Milica Ivanovic scored 13 points.
Mars Hill will travel to Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday, January 29. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
