MHC's Jones scores season-high 16 points
ANDERSON, S.C. - Mars Hill lost to Anderson, 83-68, at the Abney Athletic Center on Saturday. The Trojans improve to 8-12 overall, 4-8 in the South Atlantic Conference, while the Lions fall to 13-7 overall, 6-6 in league play.
Anderson's Alissa Diaz led all scorers with 20 points. Alexa Neal and Ashley Abed followed up with 19 points apiece.
Jessica Jones posted a season-high 16 points for Mars Hill. Taylor Deal and Brittini Young had 14 and 12 points, respectively. Kristen Metcalf came up with 10 points.
With the game tied at 21, the Trojans went on an 8-0 run. A trey from Neal gave Anderson a 29-21 lead at the 8:07 mark of the first half.
Mars Hill responded, as a bucket by Jones gave the Lions a 37-35 advantage which turned into a 38-37 halftime edge.
The Trojans opened the second half on a 24-12 spurt. Abed scored eight straight points for Anderson to give her team a 61-50 upper hand with 11:03 left in the game.
The Lions cut the deficit to seven points at the 8:24 mark of the second period. A jumper by Deal made the score 61-54, but Mars Hill would get no closer and trailed by double digits for the final 7:11 of the game.
Anderson outrebounded Mars Hill, 35-21. The Trojans were 9-20 from behind the arc, while the Lions were only 4-16.
Mars Hill will host Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday, February 9. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. ET.
