Marshall named All-SAC Honorable Mention
Junior De'Ja Marshall was named a 2020 All-SAC Honorable Mention, as announced by the league Thursday morning.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson guard Alexy Mollenhauer was voted the 2019-20 South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Year, while Wingate's Teliyah Jeter was voted the Conference's Defensive Player of the Year and Carson-Newman's Braelyn Wykle was voted the SAC Freshman of the Year. In addition, Anderson head coach Jonathon Barbaree was tabbed as the Coach of the Year, the Conference announced today.
Mollenhauer, a senior from Lindale, Texas, becomes just the fourth player in SAC women's basketball history to be named Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons. The league leader in scoring and defensive rebounds, she averaged 20 points per game and 12.5 rebounds per game, recording 18 double-doubles during the season. She earned player of the week honors five times during the year and was named the U.S. Basketball Writer's Association Women's Division II National Player of the Week on Feb. 2, after finishing the week with an average of 30.5 points and 12 rebounds per game. In addition to being named the Player of the Year, Mollenhauer is a First Team All-SAC selection.
Jeter, a junior forward from Greenville, S.C., leads the SAC and is third in NCAA Division II in total blocks (103) and blocked shots per game (3.6). She is now fourth all-time in the SAC in blocks in a season. In addition to her blocking prowess, Jeter averages a double-double of 11.1 points and 10 rebounds per game. She is fourth in the league in rebounds per game. She had 12 double-doubles this season and recorded a triple-double of 10 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks versus Catawba on Feb. 5. In addition to being named the Defensive Player of the Year, Jeter is a Second Team All-SAC honoree.
Wykle, a guard from Greeneville, Tenn., is third in the SAC in scoring, averaging 17.3 points per game and is third in the league in field-goal percentage, shooting 50 percent from the field. One of the top three-point shooters in the league, Wykle leads the conference in three-pointers with 75 and is second in three-point percentage at 45.7. In addition to being named the Freshman of the Year, she is also a First Team All-SAC selection.
Barbaree picks up his second Coach of the Year honor in as many years after leading the Trojans to back-to-back regular season conference championships. His team finished the regular season with a record of 24-4 overall, going 19-3 in league play. As a team, Anderson led the conference in total rebounds with 1,322 and scoring defense, allowing just 57.7 points per game.
In addition to Mullenhauer and Wykle, Carson-Newman's Kayla Marosites received First Team honors, along with Tusculum's Mia Long, Anderson's Madison Baggett and Catawba's Taisha DeShazo.
