
Mars Hill opens campaign with win over SWU
Haley Stallings and Kendall Middleton each net four in dominant win.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (1-0) defeated Southern Wesleyan (1-2) by a score of 12-4 Wednesday night inside Meares Stadium in their season opener.
The Lions led 2-0 after 15 minutes of play with goals from Abby Cleveland and Madison Welch. Despite giving up the first goal of the second quarter, the Lions roared back with six straight goals as Haley Stallings netted the hat-trick during the stanza.
Abby Cleveland added a goal and an assist.
In the third, the teams traded three goals apiece with Middleton scoring twice for Mars Hill. Stallings added her fourth on the night. Middleton tallied her fourth goal of the season with just 15 seconds to play in the contest.
Middleton led all players with six points (4g, 2a) while Stallings added four (4g). Cleveland ended the contest with three points (2g, 1a) while Welch and Neveah Louden supplied the other two goals of the night.
Emma Porterfield, in her collegiate debut, stopped nine shots for the win.
Mars Hill hosts Montevallo on Sunday, February 16 at 1 p.m. in non-conference play inside Meares Stadium.
