Lions open 2021 spring season on road versus Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Mars Hill women's soccer team (0-1, 0-1 SAC) opened their 2021 season on the road Thursday night, falling to Tusculum (1-1-0, 1-0 SAC) by a score of 4-0.
The Pioneers' Tina Haig broke the 0-0 deadlock less than nine minutes into the contest, heading home a crossing pass from Brianna Garcia.
Mars Hill, moments later, put two shots from Bailey Whitehead and Sanne Martinsen on goal, both saved by Cece Mortensen. The half would come to an end with Tusculum holding a 10-2 shot advantage.
In the 71st minute, Cristina Iranzo tucked a shot inside the near post off of a corner kick from Kaitlyn Watson to put Tusculum up 2-0. Just over two minutes later, Bailey Bylotas tapped in the Pioneers' third goal of the night off of a pass from Garcia.
Brooke Radcliffe added the fourth tally in the 88th minute for her first of the season.
The Lions were held shotless in the second half and while Tusculum put 10 more on goal. Sarah Paiva made seven saves in her collegiate debut.
Mars Hill returns to the pitch on Thursday, March 4 when they take on Carson-Newman. Action is set for a 5 p.m. start.
