Washshah Competing at Pan Am Games
Mars Hill women’s swimming signee JJ Washshah set a new national record for the Virgin Islands at the 2015 Pan Am Games
TORONTO- Mars Hill women's swimming signee JJ Washshah is representing the US Virgin Islands at the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto, Canada.
Washshah broke the Virgin Islands record in the 50 meter freestyle (long course) on Friday with a heat-winning time of 27.8. The previous record was set in 1977. Also on Friday, Washshah swam the 100 meter backstroke and finished in 1:10.50. On Tuesday, Washshah finished second in her heat and 26th overall in the 100 meter freestyle with a time of 1:01.68 (converted yards 54.53) on Tuesday. She is also the Virgin Islands record holder in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle (short course). The Pan Am Games aren't Washshah's first international competition as she has competed in the World Championships.
"JJ is a good representative for us and a great addition to our team," head swimming coach Teddy Guyer said. "She's had a great time representing her country at the games and especially enjoyed the opening ceremonies where she was easily seen processing with the other Virgin Islands athletes."
