Mueller sets MHU record in pentathlon
The Mars Hill women's indoor track & field team traveled to Roanoke college over the weekend to compete in the Finn Pincus Invitational.
SALEM/VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Mars Hill women's indoor track & field team traveled to Roanoke college over the weekend to compete in the Finn Pincus Invitational. The ladies competed against 16 other teams across NCAA DII, DIII, and NAIA levels. Throughout the two-day meet several ladies set new personal bests and established season bests in their respective events.
Highlights:
Simone Giggetts set new personal best in the women's 60m with a time of 8.65s. Giggetts placed 16th overall. Giggetts competed in the women's 60m Hurdles and the open 200m as well. She placed 9th in hurdles, narrowly missing out on a trip to the finals, finishing in a time of 9.73s.
Honney Willis established a new personal record in the 60m Hurdles. Willis placed 24th overall with a time of 11.49s.
Sarah McNeil shaved eight seconds off her 800m time, finishing with a new PR of 2:50.76. McNeil placed 26th overall.
Maya Adams established a season best mark of 4.19m in women's long jump. Adams placed 18th overall.
MyKayla King vaulted to a season best 2.75m (9' 0.25"). King placed sixth overall on the day.
Bailey Beeman threw a season best 9.6m in women's Shot Put, placing 24th overall in the event.
Hannah Frazer competed in her first indoor 5000m run. Frazer placed eighth overall with a time of 20:53.41.
Lindsey Jenkins placed fifth overall in the women's 500m with a time of 1:26.61. This was Jenkins first time competing in the 500m at the collegiate level.
The Lions compete again on February 3rd when they head to Liberty University to compete in the Liberty Open.
Oceanfront Invitational | Pentathlon | Virginia Beach Sports Complex
Alina Mueller and Makayla Rogers traveled to Virginia Beach, VA to compete in the pentathlon. The one-day event is comprised of five events – the 60m Hurdles, High Jump, Shot Put, Long Jump, and the 800m run.
Mueller placed first overall in the pentathlon, setting a new personal record in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 9.92s (727pts). Mueller jumped 1.46m in high jump (577pts). She set a personal best in shot put with a throw of 9.35m (487pts). Mueller jump 4.85m in long jump (519pts). She finished out the day with a time of 2:33.51 in the 800m (650pts).
Mueller broke her own school record in the pentathlon, finishing with a combined score of 2,960 points.
Makayla Rogers placed second overall in the event. Rogers set a new personal record in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 9.53s (802pts). Rogers jumped 1.46m in high jump (577pts). She threw a personal best 9.8m in shot put (516pts). She set a new personal record in Long Jump with a jump of 5m (559pts). Rogers finished out the event with yet another PR – she finished the 800m in a time of 2:46.48 (501pts). Rogers set a new personal record in the pentathlon with an overall score of 2955pts.
Mueller and Rogers will compete again in the Pentathlon at the SAC Indoor T&F Championships on February 24th and 25th. They will join the team on February 3rd at the Liberty Open.
