Mars Hill opens season at JDL Fastrack
The Lions traveled to Winston-Salem, N.C. to compete in the Early Bird Invitational hosted by JDL Fast Track. 850+ athletes representing teams from all NCAA divisions as well the NAIA took to the track.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Lions traveled to Winston-Salem, N.C. to compete in the Early Bird Invitational hosted by JDL Fast Track. 850+ athletes representing teams from all NCAA divisions as well the NAIA took to the track.
Several Lions had a day. Eight personal bests were achieved throughout the day.
Sprint/Hurdle crew
Simone Giggetts Makayla Rogers, Alina Mueller, La'Miya Blake, and Honney Willis all competed in the 60m Hurdles. Giggetts, Rogers, and Willis all established personal bests on the day. Giggetts placed 17th overall with a time of 9.65s. Rogers followed close behind finishing in a time of 9.68s. Good enough for 19th place. Mueller placed 25th overall with a time of 10.17s. Blake placed 32nd with a time of 10.79s and Willis placed 37th, finishing in a time of 11.56s.
Blake and Willis competed in the 60m dash where they both established personal best times. Willis finished in 28th place with a time of 8.62s, while Blake finished in 32nd with a time of 8.71s.
Giggetts returned to the track a second time for the women's 200m sprint. In her first collegiate 200m, Giggetts finished 40th with a time of 28.80s.
Elana Mackey kicked off the indoor season with the 400m dash. Mackey placed 40th overall with a time of 1:04.92.
Throws Squad
Bailey Beeman took to the ring where she competed in shot put. Beeman placed 30th overall with a throw of 9.2m (30' 2.25").
Jumps Squad
Rogers set two personal bests in the jumps. First on the runway in Long Jump where she jumped 4.96m (16' 3.25") and second at the High Jump Apron where she jumped 1.53m (5' 0.25"). Rogers finished 9th in Long Jump and 8th in High Jump.
Mueller competed alongside Rogers in High Jump. Mueller placed 16th overall with a jump of 1.43m (4' 8.25").
Allayja Gilliam competed in her first ever collegiate meet. Gilliam competed in both Long Jump and ripple Jump. She placed 39th overall in Long Jump with a mark of 4.35m (14' 3.25") and 19th overall in Triple Jump with a distance of 9.75m (32'). – Long Jump 4.35m (14'3.25") 39th place.
Beeman took to the runway where she competed in Long Jump. Beeman placed 44th overall with a jump of 3.91m (12' 10").
Mykayla King, recently cleared from a surgery over the summer, returned to the Pole Vault runway. King placed 15th of 23 with a vault of 2.6m (8' 6.25").
Distance Crew
Lindsey Jenkins competed in the mile and the 3000m run for the first time in her collegiate career. Jenkins placed 10th out of 29 runners in the mile with a time of 5:43.96 and 12th out of 26 in the 3000m with a time of 11:24.69.
Anahi Reta competed in the 800m, finished 2-seconds off her personal best with a time of 2:57.69. Reta placed 24th overall.
In her first collegiate indoor meet, Brenna Hicks placed 29th in the 800m run with a time of 3:05.63.

Next up, the Lions travel to Salem, Virginia to compete in the Bast-Cregger Invitational hosted by Roanoke College.
