Giggetts breaks MHU record, Lions place 10th at SAC Indoor T&F Championship

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's track & field team competed this weekend in the South Atlantic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. The meet took place at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
All thirteen conference schools were represented at the conference qualifier. Twenty-one Lions took to the track, runways, and throwing surfaces this weekend – trips to the finals, event wins, personal bests, and new school records were set.
Highlights from the Field:
Haley Eddinger placed eighth in pole vault, clearing a height of 2.8m (9' 2.25"). Eddinger earned one point for the women's team.
Highlights from the track:
Simone Giggetts qualified for the women's 60m hurdles. Prelims for the hurdles were held on Day One of the Championship. Giggetts finished seventh in the prelims with a personal best time of 9.28s. The top eight fastest competitors advanced from prelims to the finals which was held on Day Two of the Championship. Giggetts went out and put up a great race, hurdling her way to a fourth place finish in a time of 9.05s. Giggetts set a new school record with her time in the finals, shattering a 20-year-old record of 9.22s. Giggetts earned five points for the women's team.
Lindsey Jenkins placed 13th overall in the women's 800m run. Jenkins finished with a new collegiate best 2:27.53.
The Lions finished 10th overall with a combined team score of six points.
The Lions next transition to the outdoor season. Their first competition is the L-R Bears Opener, Saturday, March 16th at Lenoir-Rhyne University.
