
Lions defeat Montevallo on road
MHU wins fifth meet of year in tight road battle.
MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Mars Hill acrobatics & tumbling team (5-1) defeated Montevallo (1-2) by a score of 243.470-238.250 Friday afternoon for their fifth win of the season.
In a tightly contested first half, Mars Hill entered the second up by 1.35 points, outscoring Montevallo 88.65-87.30. Mars Hill scored highest in the Open Heat of the Pyramid Event, scoring a 9.5. The Lions boasted a 9.4 in the Pyramid Heat of the Compulsory Event, 9.3 in the Toss Heat, and a 9.1 in the 6-Element Heat of the Acro Event.
Mars Hill pulled away in the Toss Event, outscoring the Falcons 26.55-24.90 with three solid heats, scoring 8.75 or higher in each. In the Tumbling Event, the Lions took two of the three group passes, as well as two of three individual passes to pad their lead heading into the team event.
The Lions closed out the meet with a strong performance in the Team Event, scoring an 80.47 to clinch the win.
The Lions return to the mats on Friday, March 14 when they face Wingate on the road. The meet is set for a 6 p.m. start time.
